pod obsession part 2
yesterday was a good day. i sculpted some more pods and found a super great book from the 70's that has all black and white photos of pods and nature forms. some are photographed under a microscope so you can see intimate detail. i'm going to try and photo the pages of the book, if they turn out i'll share. for now, here's some more pod love from etsy.

pod obsession
those of you who've know me for awhile know that i've had an obsession with seed pods and trees and these two natural elements inspire quite a bit of my work. i'm in the middle of sculpting a set of pods and i found these "pod items" on etsy and just love, love, love, them all.

a recent installment
"california poppies"
Just before Christmas I had a man come to my studio asking to buy the 9 piece set of my "Petite Felt Gardens". He said he had a "Frank Lloyd Wright modelled home and the pieces would look great in his house", the plan was to surprise his wife with them as a Christmas present. He also commissioned me to make an additional felt garden containing California Poppies. He asked me to go to his house and decide where the artwork should be hung. While they were away travelling a neighbor let me in and Teresa and I hung the pieces. I was a bit nervous about putting 9 holes in the wall, but was so happy with how the installment looked in their home once i got it up. It was a nice touch mixed in with their beautiful modern furniture and the mid-century modern feel of their gorgeous house. The man asked me to take a picture of the installment and email it to him and on he printed off the picture and gave the picture to his wife for Christmas to let her know when she got home it was waiting for her.....*sigh*..... Isn't this whole arrangement so thoughtful of him?

the Eclectic Curio Coffeehouse-a funky place to sip and shop
I've blogged about my mom and her funky vintage/retro shop on etsy call the Eclectic Curio...well...she's sorta expanded! Over Thanksgiving I was home and I helped her get ready for her newest endeavor, the Eclectic Curio Coffeehouse and retro shop. She opened up the beginning of December. While I was home I got to see her fabulously funky new shop and even help her work it a bit. "The Eclectic Curio...a funky place to sip and shop" reads as you walk in the door. My brother helps her manage the place and they both work a lot of hours. I am so proud of my mama and brother and all the work they've done. Her place is so adorable and has super retro and vintage finds. She serves a full espresso bar, pastries, brownies, specialty candies, ice cream and so much more. You can also purchase lily pottery jewelry there ;) Check out the EC blog and etsy shop and if you're ever in Cincinnati Ohio, you gotta check out the Eclectic Curio!

Starting the New Year off right!
the new loveseat
Happy New Year!!!! I do hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season and are ready to take on this new year with a fresh charged up mind and spirit! I know I am! I am so excited for this new year, 2009!
I have been busy doing the "new year revamp" giving my house a fresh clean start as well :) I found this amazing beige 2 seater sofa which is in excellent condition in Cincinnati while I was home...there's crazy story behind it but bottom line i got this little beauty for $26 bucks!!! It looks so fabulous in my living room. I also took the navy sofa I had in my studio and brought it home to put in my living room with it. I'm really happy with the "new look".
(You'll have to excuse the two furry beauty queens that are posing in my pictures. they both were sleeping when i started then both sauntered in and posed for my photos...)
