on a fiber kick again...

Yesterday I got together with one of my favorite people and good friend April. We are working towards a joint show in December. We are using historical references and forms in nature as our inspiration. We have decided to combine felt and ceramics for this show. We've been brainstorming and preparing for quite a few weeks now and yesterday we put it all into action! I am so excited about our show...I'll be documenting the our progress and share it with you as we go along. We'll meet every wednesday so look for the progress posts on Thursdays.

it's finally here!

I am so very excited yesterday I picked up 400 copies of my new 2009 lily pottery product catalog! This is the first catalog I've ever done, and I am so happy with the completed product! This catalog is going out to independent boutiques, and wholesalers, I'm trying to expand my clientele a bit and spread the "lily pottery jewelry love" outside of Greenville!
I'm excited about this new adventure I'm about to embark on! cross your fingers for me!!

Fresh Fall Fun!

a lovely view from the top

isaiah had to climb for the granny smith apples :)

some fun shaped knobby gords and pumpkins

tasty asian pears, YUM!

This weekend I got up and away to the mountains with my sweetie! And oh what delightful time we had! We went apple picking! The weather could not have been more beautiful and the smell of autumn was definitely in the air! We sauntered through the rows of trees bowing to offer us their delectable, juicy fruits! The Fuji apples are one of my favorites, and I ate enough for you and me this past weekend! They are SO sweet this year! Once we'd filled our bushel basket, we browsed the pumpkin patches, tasted the fresh-pressed cider slushies, and watched the children excitedly board the hay wagon rides. I love the textures and smells Autumn brings. Below are a few photos from our lovely little weekend excursion I thought I'd share. Happy Fall to all of you, and I hope you enjoyed your weekend!

production overload!

Well, the reason I've not been posting on my blog for the past few days is that I've been caught under some major projects lately! I just finished the biggest commission on my list yesterday! whoo hoo! I made 250 tiles which were used as coasters! And let me tell you, 250 is a big number!!! This commission took me over 175 lbs of clay! I don't mind doing commissions as long as they're spread out, but this one was different in the fact I only had 2 1/2 weeks to complete it and in between those two weeks I've had a grand opening, First Fridays show, workshops at the museum...yikes! life has been a bit crazy for me!

There is something about producing a large quantity of items in a short amount of time. You get this sort of overwhelming relief at the finish, just like finishing a long race or marathon, you're so tired, and so ready to be done, but completely satisfied that you've accomplished your mission! I accomplished my mission, and now I'm on to the next project!

Alice Ballard Workshop

the actual pecan pods and small "clay sketches"

beginning to make the pods

the pods cut in half

alice and I
I had the AMAZING opportunity to take a workshop this past weekend with Alice Ballard. I fell in love with Alice's work the very first time I saw her fluid and organic ceramics and her work has inspired me ever since. I found out this weekend her work is not only amazing, but she too is and incredible woman. In the workshop she explained many handbuilding techniques and encouraged each of us to find a form in nature and sculpt it out of clay. We were to make two forms that somehow related to one another. I brought two pecan seed pods from the trees in my back yard for my nature subject. As I began to work in her techniques, I found myself lost in my own little world of me and the clay. Before I new it the first day was over. I couldn't wait for day two!

I took a gazillion pictures this weekend and tried to document every tid-bit of the workshop. I am so grateful for this past weekend! It was like meeting one of my heroes and getting work with her for two days! Below I have posted some pictures of Alice's beautiful work.
