a new place to find lily pottery...
I'm happy to let you all know that there's a new place on Main St downtown Greenville that is carrying the lily pottery line...Mast General Store! I'm very excited to have my line of jewelry picked up by them! Earrings, necklaces and rings are currently for sale in the store, but save the date: SATURDAY, JUNE 20th Mast General will be hosting a Lily Pottery Trunk Show! I will have EVERYTHING on display in the store 11-4, June 20th. I'll post about it as the time gets closer, but for now, mark your calendar and if you're strolling down Main St, pop into Mast General and take a peak at my jewelry ;)

always remember...
a deep and sincere thanks to all the service men and women who have and are serving our country. we owe so much to you.
We bow our heads in silent grace;
Proud to stand upon this place.
To honor those who we love and lost;
Whose lives were taken at such a cost.
Through the pain and sorrow, for all the brave and true;
To always be remembered by me and by you.
To heal the minds and hearts, of those who still live;
Always remembering what they had to give.
Live your lives with pride in hearing what I say;
May God bless and keep you on this and every day.

yesterday...
i saw the coolest stuff at Blue Spiral! my friend Jen and i were totally freaking out at this new artist we found George Peterson. he creates these massive sculptures using recycled skateboards! how cool is that?!?!? he says this about his work:
"my aim with the skateboard series is to celebrate the iconic nature of the skateboard as well as the creative/destructive energy that goes into forming the raw material i start with...like making art, skateboarding is a very creative and personal outlet. it is also inherently destructive; boards get worn down, cracked and broken. it is a subtle and unintended type of wood sculpting. this work is about layers: it speaks of the utility and beauty of wood, the culture and byproducts of our modern world and the visual/textural language i've developed through my work as an artist"
some of his other pieces were recycled wood, then he uses rusty nails, wire, waxed linen, chisels, chainsaws, fire and all kinds of other found objects and methods to add detail to his work. i think since i have a little brother that longboards and skates, his stuff was like jumping off the wall and speaking to me! i was totally and still am in awe of this guys work...

raku firing
yesterday in my class at the Greenville Art Museum, we raku fired. i had a blast doing it! it's always fun for students to see raku firing. it's so dramatic and the pottery that come out is gorgeous! here's just some photos of the fun we had...
suiting up! i'm wearing a welder's apron and face shield to help deflect the heat and flames
we open the kiln doors at about 1800 degrees F to pull out the pots...
the pots are glowing red when we pull them out. you quickly place them onto a pile of combustsable material, (we used straw)...
once the pot is placed in the bed of straw, we throw more straw on top then quickly cover the pot and straw with a metal bucket. this creates a crazy atmosphere under the bucket which develops the flashes in raku glazes.
after about 30 minutes of cooling, we lift the buckets to see the treasures underneath! we place them in a bucket or sink of cold water to cool...
...when we take them out of the water... viola! these are a few of my raku pieces from yesterday!

gnome homes
these happy little homes are something new i've been working on in the studio. i have affectionately termed them "gnome homes" i love to think that if i put them outside in my garden the friendly little gnomes that guard my gardens would make these fun pots their abode. they could also function as a birdhouse as well. whichever you'd like to use them for, i think they'd make lovely additions to your outdoor spaces.
